Stockholm Bike Pics

Bike_signal_2 Air_station_2 Peter Skosey from the Metroplitan Planning Council sent along these pics of bike infrastructure in Stockholm.

There's a bicycle in blue at the top of that traffic signal, which means this light only controls bikes, such is the Swedes' recognition of cycling as an important transportation mode.  And the downtown air pump seems like it might be pretty darned useful, too.

Wait... There are cyclists somewhere that pay attention laws governing traffic? wow! I think if Chicago recognized "cycling as an important transportation mode." Every single cyclist would ignore every light and sign always.

And in the interest of disclosure.... I am one of the cyclists that drive the wrong way down streets, don't stop if I don;t see other traffic etc. It would be weird to be in a situation where we were all obeying traffic laws.

If biking infrastructure is put in place widely, then the law-abiding middle-class will cycle. If the law-abiding (and voting) middle-class doesn't cycle, then there's not enough interest to use tax money to build cycling infrastructure to make more cautious folks feel safe. Therefore, the United States is left with cyclists who tend to be oddballs, frankly.

You can call this the "cyclists cycle"...
