In an effort to seek permanent improvements from the possible 2016 Olympics, a coalition to put together a Community Benefits Agreement has been formed. An existing organization named SOUL (Southsiders Organizing for Unity and Liberation) has taken the project on and joined a larger group called CEO (Coaltion for an Equitable Olympics). I've been working regularly with Linda Thisted at SOUL to integrate transit into that Community Benefits Agreement and SOUL has adopted the Gray Line Lite proposal as a top priority.
A public meeting and rally will be held at the Olivet Baptist Church at 3101 S. King Drive on Thursday, August 14 at 5:30pm, probably lasting until 7pm. I unfortunately cannot go because I have another commitment I can't break, but if any of y'all do go, please sign up with SOUL and introduce yourself to Linda Thisted. In these sorts of coalitions, the member organizations which deliver more participants are more likely to have their desires taken more seriously, so this is your chance to help the Gray Line become a reality.
I gotta say that things are looking bright for our little Gray Line. There will never be a better time to press for this. The lunch meeting that Linda & I had today with a Hyde Park insider went sooooo well that Linda afterwards exclaimed, "We just may make a difference here!" Yep.
Gray line, huh...I'm sure much more changes are coming especially after the mayor's trip to Bejing this week.
