Hyde Park Book Sale

Now that we have all that Maine stuff out of our systems, let's talk about something really important-- used books available for incredibly low prices.  More importantly, I'd like to tell you about a limited-time opportunity to have your pick of those used books at bargain basement prices.  And if you choose to take me up on this offer, I'll even throw in-- again, for a limited time only-- free snacks and drinks.

Hpim0492_2 Hpim0511 Oh, I know what you're thinking: "Rev. Transit, that's too good to be true.  There has to be some catch."  Well, your cynicism is, once again, not misplaced.  There is a catch.  You have to help sort & box the books for our sale.

Every Monday evening, from 6 until 8pm, from now until Columbus Day, I'll be in the basement of Treasure Island at 55th & Lake Park, leading a crew of volunteers much like yourselves.  You can drop in and drop out as you wish.  Volunteers get the chance to buy a small number of books each day they sort-- far in advance of when the hoi polloi will descend upon the plaza and snatch up the choicest volumes.  Think of that, folks!  It's like a mini-sale every Monday and all you have to do is chime in with some labor.  (Other evenings and weekends are available to volunteer on, but Monday evenings are what I've committed to.)

Maine: The Odd Duck Photos

Img_0546 These are photos that seemed to fit better in the odd duck category than in food, getting there or Lake Sebec.

Maine Photos: Sebec Lake

Img_0647 Now, the heart of our photosaga-- pics around the lake.

Here, Sheckey is shown effortlessly carrying two-thirds of the state of Maine.  More pics.

Maine Photos: Getting There

Img_0490 Finally, I had a little time to get my photos from Maine up on the interwebs.  This group of photos covers the trip from Chicago to Lake Sebec.

Actual translation here.  I hope it just loses something in the translation because the real lyrics are some of the worst pablum I've ever heard.

Moosies in Sprinkler

Via the Presurfer, we at Always in Transit today try to make up for the shyness of Maine moose with this video of three Alaska moose cavorting under a lawn sprinkler:

As Maine Eats, So Eats Vermont

Img_0632 I might as well beat the Debacler to the food.  If I can't be the best food pornographer, I can at least be the fastest.

We ate very well.  We were given full use of the food in the freezer, which included various game-- venison, my second favorite kind of wild turkey and a bear's head, which I did not get a picture of.

17 photos here.

Leaving Lake Sebec

The_great_wal_of_china Well, I could have stayed here another month, but today we joined the rest of the folks from away going back to the grind.

Don't worry about me, though.  I have another long weekend planned in a couple weeks and this time I get to go to rural Ohio.

Statues_of_easter_island Some of the local folk art here in Maine is pretty darned good.
